At Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre we offer free NHS treatments to all patients. You are not required to pay if you are an NHS patient and have been referred for treatment by your GP.
Please note: All our surgical procedures will be carried out at our in-patient hospital at Shepton Mallet, even if you have an outpatient appointment at a different hospital.
Cataract surgery is one of the most common and quickest surgical procedures. It involves the removal of the lens in the eye because it has become cloudy, or is causing blurry or misty vision. The lens is replaced with an artificial lens, which is bespoke according to the visual needs of each patient.
This term covers a wide range of surgical procedures that treat conditions of the eyelids, tear ducts and tissues surrounding the eyes. Local NHS Commissioner funding is required prior to referral for these procedures.
Because we only deal with scheduled care, and no emergency cases, we are not affected by the NHS announcement to cancel all non-urgent surgery; if you are booked in for an appointment or surgery with us it will still go ahead.
